ASC Grand Architectural Creation Award, 2009 (1949-2009)
The Project is the only memorial museum in China that presents the life story and charisma of Chairman Mao Zedong. It is the core development of “No. 1 Project” at Shaoshan, a national demonstration base for patriotism education. Over 1,000 of Chairman Mao’s remains are on display in the Museum. The museum building is embedded into a superior natural environment of mountains and rivers at the picturesque hometown of Mao. The building is impressive with meandering cloisters and staggered tiles when approached near, and stands out with tiered and cascading appearance amid lush green when viewed from afar. The traditional features like double-slope roof, fire wall and stilted building are mixed with the modern elements like the glass curtain walls and calm reflection pool on the memorial square. Simple yet elegant, the buildings embody the overwhelming courage and demeanor of a great leader in China.
